Ortoma to present groundbreaking 2D-3D technology for knee and hip joints at the annual ISTA congress in New York 2023

Published July 7, 2023

Ortoma AB (publ), a pioneer in the field of orthopedic technology, announces that two abstracts have been accepted for presentation at the prestigious International Society for Technology in Arthroplasty (ISTA) congress. Ortoma will present evaluations of clinical material using the Company’s technology for converting 2D X-ray images into 3D models.

The ISTA congress is on the theme “Emerging Technologies in Arthroplasty: Innovation and Entrepreneurship”, where the focus is on highlighting technical solutions for current clinical problems in arthroplasty. Ortoma will participate by presenting its abstracts, which focus on the company’s pioneering technology for using its unique AI-based software platform to convert conventional X-ray images into 3D models and for analyzing post-operative data.

The first abstract, “Clinical Evaluation of an AI-based 2D-to-3D Knee Bone Reconstruction for Patient-Specific Instrumentation in Total Knee Arthroplasty”, discusses a recent clinical case study conducted by Ortoma. The study introduces a new 2D-to-3D platform using AI algorithms to create 3D models of the patient’s knee joint based on two 2D radiographs. The presentation will highlight the benefits of Ortoma’s revolutionary solution and advanced technology for creating 3D models of knees.

The second abstract that Ortoma will present is “Fully Automated AI-based Post-op CT Analysis in Total Hip Arthroplasty”. The presentation will highlight the potential of Ortoma’s AI technology to analyze postoperative CT images.

“We are pleased to present our abstracts at the ISTA congress in New York. After having successfully introduced our pioneering concept for AI-based conversion of plain radiographs into 3D models for hip joints at other conferences, we have now further developed our technology for knee joints as well. This recognition confirms our strength as innovators in arthroplasty and our commitment to improving patient care.”, comments CEO Linus Byström.

Ortoma will also hold presentations and demonstrations of its products in New York during ISTA (27 – 30 September 2023). About Ortoma AB (publ)
Ortoma AB develops surgical systems for the planning and positioning of implants in hip, knee and spinal surgery. The purpose of the company’s surgical system, Ortoma Treatment Solution™ (OTS) is to enable surgeons to accurately measure and plan 3D surgery for the placement of joint implants, and during surgery, to optimally position the implant in the patient. Ortoma’s surgical system is aimed at providing better patient outcomes, fewer complications and less follow-up surgeries – and thus better long-term survival rates for implants. OTS is a system that is easily integrated into the processes and routines currently used in surgery, thereby increasing efficiency. Globally, more than 7.5 million orthopedic procedures are performed each year where OTS could be used in hip, knee and spinal surgery. In Sweden, around 42,000 surgical procedures were performed last year, involving hip, knee or spinal surgery. Ortoma’s B shares are listed on Nasdaq First North Growth Market Stockholm.
