Ortoma AB (publ) will be at the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, AAOS event in Las Vegas, March 7-10, 2023. The Company has developed a first advanced prototype for planning hip surgery based on 2D x-ray images that are converted into a 3D model. The prototype will be presented in conjunction with one of the largest industry conferences in orthopedic surgery, the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS). The event will bring together leading industry representatives, clinicians, academics and policy makers from around the world on 7-11 March 2023 in Las Vegas.
Ortoma announced on October 31, 2022, that the Company would present a proof-of-concept solution for converting 2D x-ray images into 3D models built on the Company’s unique AI-based preoperative planning platform in conjunction with the AAHKS Annual Meeting on November 4-5, 2022. Given the strong interest shown in the concept, the Company has now developed a first prototype for preoperative planning of hip surgery using this new concept. The prototype streamlines the process for the surgeon, automates planning and optimize the choice of implant.
The concept work was initiated when the Company identified a strong need in the market which Ortoma has the unique capability to address. As Ortoma has already developed an advanced machine learning platform, the Company saw an additional opportunity to convert x-ray images into 3D models. The current technology for producing 3D models of, for example, knees and hips is done using a CT scan. While not all hospitals are equipped with a CT scan, conventional X-rays are usually available. Ortoma will now take advantage of this opportunity and develop the concept into a prototype with the goal of launching a first product in 2024 in parallel with commercializing the CT-based OTS-platform.
