Big industrial interest for Ortoma Treatment Solution™ (OTS) – continuing surgery with OTS in Sweden

Publicerat 24 Feb, 2017

Ortoma Treatment Solution™ (OTS) attracts big interest from the med tech industry. The OTS system have been demonstrated on site to several global implant suppliers and players within diagnostic imaging suppliers. The goal for Ortoma AB is to conclude a resale agreement with some of the stakeholders.

Further two patients diagnosed with hip arthritis has been operated on with a cemented hip joint replacement using the Ortoma Treatment Solution™. The OR team was led by associate professor Gunnar Flivik, Orthopaedic Department, Skåne University Hospital, site Trelleborg. Both surgeries were carried out without prolonged time for surgery, knife time was 65 and 75 minutes, respectively. The OTS-system worked seamless with current processes and routines at the unit.

Three patients have earlier been operated on at the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Örebro University Hospital, site Lindesberg. With that, five patients have been operated on with OTS in a clinical routine setting.

"- The use of Ortoma Treatment Solution™ allows accurate planning of the position of the hip prosthesis in the patient and precise surgery for an optimal functional biomechanical positioning of the hip prosthesis. A correct positioned hip prosthesis will possibly lower the number of revision surgery due to early dislocations, and probably prolong the survival time of the implant. In addition, use of OTS will most likely also decrease the number of law suits for medical malpractice in the USA. The seamless function of OTS in the clinical setting and absence of prolonged knife time is corner stones for a global market share and ongoing discussions with industrial players", says professor Matts Andersson, CEO of Ortoma AB.

Ortoma Treatment Solution™ comprise two modules: Ortoma Plan™ used before surgery for accurate planning in 3D of the hip prosthesis' positioning, and Ortoma Guide™ used during surgery for precise positioning of the hip prosthesis components according to the executed 3D planning.

Ortoma Treatment Solution™ – accurate planning and precise surgery.

About Ortoma AB

Ortoma AB develops systems for planning and positioning of implants for hip, knee and spine surgery. The company's surgical system, Ortoma Treatment Solution ™ (OTS) have two aims. First to facilitate for the surgeon to accurate measure and plan, in 3D, the optimum placement of joint components in the patient. Second, during surgery, guide the surgeon to the optimal planned position for the placement of the components. The overall aim is to improve the outcome of surgery for the patient, with less complications, less repeated surgeries and thus a better long time survival of the implant. A second aim is to create a system that easily can be integrated in existing processes and routines used at the operating unit and in this way, improve efficiency.

Globally more than 7.5 million hip, knee and spine surgeries are performed with the potential of using OTS. In Sweden 42.000 hip, knee and spine surgeries were performed last year. Ortoma has approximately 1.400 shareholders and its B-shares are listed at AktieTorget (https://www.aktietorget.se/default.aspx?Language=2).

About Ortoma AB (publ)
Ortoma AB develops surgical systems for the planning and positioning of implants in hip, knee and spinal surgery. The purpose of the company’s surgical system, Ortoma Treatment Solution™ (OTS) is to enable surgeons to accurately measure and plan 3D surgery for the placement of joint implants, and during surgery, to optimally position the implant in the patient. Ortoma’s surgical system is aimed at providing better patient outcomes, fewer complications and less follow-up surgeries – and thus better long-term survival rates for implants. OTS is a system that is easily integrated into the processes and routines currently used in surgery, thereby increasing efficiency. Globally, more than 7.5 million orthopedic procedures are performed each year where OTS could be used in hip, knee and spinal surgery. In Sweden, around 42,000 surgical procedures were performed last year, involving hip, knee or spinal surgery. Ortoma’s B shares are listed on Spotlight Stock Market.
